DAIR-10 ELEMENTS OF DAIRY (CAN AG 28)
3 units, 2 hours lecture, 3 hours lab.

This is a study of history, development, and projections of the dairy industry. General information on the economics of dairying, facts, trends, selection, culling, fitting, showing, judging, pedigrees, feeding, and basic management skills will be learned and also information on employment opportunities and requirements. DAIR-11 DAIRY CATTLE SELECTION
2 units: 1 hour lecture, 3 hours lab.
Advisories: ENGL-81, ENGL-84.
There will be selection of dairy cattle based on type conformation and the correlation between type and production. Pedigree evaluation, animal analysis, linear classification, and body condition scoring will be learned. Written and oral evaluation on selection will be done. The course may be repeated once for advanced skill and training. (3/00)
