Program Description

The Liberal Studies program is dedicated to assisting students who plan a future as a K-12 teacher. Students attend lecture sections to discuss the educational system, including exposure to state standards for curriculum. In addition, Liberal Studies students observe in elementary classrooms to gain experience in a real-world setting.

Merced College offers the following degrees/certificates in Liberal Studies:

  • Elementary Teacher Education (AA-T)
  • Liberal Studies (Teaching Preparation) (AA)

Orientation Information

Liberal Studies allows you to get a head start towards your future in K-8 teaching.  Liberal Studies 10 and 20 are accepted at CSU, Stanislaus in place of their Liberal Studies 1000 and 2000. 

**SPRING 2017 Orientation: Friday, January 20, 2017 @ 4 pm in Lesher 111 (Merced Campus)**

All LBST 10 students are required to attend the orientation.  It is recommended that continuing students enrolled in LBST 20 attend as well.
