Merced College Concert Band Ready For Fall Performance

Promising “music that will make your toes tap, your voice sing, and your face smile,” the fall performance of the Merced College Concert Band is ready for an audience. The concert will be held in the college theater on Friday, October 29 at 8 p.m.

“We’ll present a wide variety of pieces for the listening pleasure of our audience,” said conductor Mark Steven Doiel. “We’ve had a lot of fun this semester preparing for this show.”

The program includes “The Star Spangled Banner,” arranged by John Higgins, “Great Movie Marches,” arranged by John Moss, Klaus Badlet’s “The Pirates of the Caribbean (Symphonic Suite), selections from “Porgy and Bess,” “ Brighton Beach” by William Latham, and “Moravian Folk Rhapsody” by Robert Sheldon.

The concert will be interrupted by a brief intermission then resume with “The Clear Track Polka” by Eduard Strauss and “The Crosley March” by Henry Fillmore, among other compositions.

The Merced College Concert Band features musicians from the local community and college. Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Music Room 2. Interested musicians may join by calling Mark Doiel at 384-6274. Visit the band’s website at

Also scheduled for this year is the Concert Band’s annual Winter Holiday concert on Friday, December 3.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets are available at the College’s Theater Box Office and Community Services office, Kissin’ Kouzins in the Bear Creek Galleria, Aloha Floral at the Merced Mall, and Applewood Gifts on 18 th Street.
