Merced College holds last Science on Saturday Lecture

Merced College will be holding its last lecture in the Science on Saturdays 2006 series at Los Banos High School this Saturday, May 6.

The lecture titled "Repairing DNA: Our Best Defense Against Cancer," will be given by Dr. John Hinz, Research Scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). He will discuss the ways cells repair DNA, the mutagenic consequences of unprepared DNA damage, and the fates of individuals born without DNA repair proteins.

Science on Saturday (SOS) is a three Saturday series of free lectures and demonstrations targeted for middle and high school students. Presentations are aligned with the California Science Standards and topics are selected from the forefront of science and technology research in a variety of disciplines.

Science On Saturday 2006 is presented by Merced College , Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Science & Technology Education Program, Merced County Office of Education, Merced Union High School District, Los Banos Unified School District , Delhi Unified School District , and UC Merced.

The lecture will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m. Seating for this free lecture is on a first come first serve basis and there is no pre-registration. Los Banos High School is located at 1966 S 11 th Street , Los Banos.
