November 9, 2006 Merced College students can now order their textbooks online and have them shipped directly to their home, avoiding the long lines at the bookstore that always occur at the beginning of each new semester. It’s easy to do, just access the Merced College website at www.mccd.edu and click on the bookstore icon, or go directly to www.mercedcollegebookstore.com. Follow the simple directions and you’ll be receiving your books in no time. Robyn Piro, Merced College Bookstore Manager, said she hopes in the near future to offer students the option of “reserving” textbooks online. By putting a “reserve” on their books, students would be able to purchase them online and then come to a designated center on campus to pick them up before their classes begin, and thus avoid paying shipping fees. “It’s a matter of finding the space to safely store the textbooks and the staff to distribute them when it’s time for the students to come to pick them up,” Piro said. “It’s a work in progress, but for now, just having the ability for students to purchase their books online and shipped to their home provides a wonderful convenience they’ve never had before.”
