Second Annual Merced College Jazz Ensemble To Play At Historical Merced Theater December 2

November 16, 2006

Merced native vocalist Cheryl Lockett will be joining John Albano on Sat., Dec. 2, as Albano directs the Merced College Jazz Ensemble in its second annual Holiday performance. This year the Ensemble will perform at the newly renovated historic Merced Theater, located on the corner of Martin Luther King and Main Streets. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the performance will begin at 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

The 17-piece big band will perform jazz classics, holiday favorites, and spicy Latin jazz selections, which will include music by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, and Prince.

Lockett, daughter of Kenneth and Lila Craig of the original Merced Blue Notes Band, will be showcasing her gift for interpreting Billie Holiday songs such as “God Bless the Child”. Also, a special duo performance by Lockett and Albano as guitarist, will compliment the evening.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors, students, and advance tickets sales. Tickets are available at Merced College Community Services Office, Gottschalk’s Music Center, and the Merced Theater. All proceeds will go to the Merced College Music Department and the Merced Theater renovation project. For further information, call 384-6224.
