Merced County Human Service Agency Employment & Training - CalWORKs

Merced College
CalWORKs program works collaboratively with Merced County Human Services
agency (H.S.A) to meet the needs of the California Work Opportunity and
Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) students. The H.S.A. CalWORKs
program provides temporary financial assistance to qualifying families
and provides Medi-Cal Coverage for all recipients. There is a work
requirement of 35/40 hours per week based on a one or two parent
household.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must have a verified deprivation. Deprivations include
unemployment, underemployment (less than 100 hours per month), disability or
incapacity, or an absent parent of a child/children under 18 years
old. Household income and resources also go into the eligibility
determination. (Household income and resources are also included when
determining eligibility)
Benefits
Benefits/Grants are based upon eligible household size and income.
Your eligibility worker will work with you to get the maximum highest
benefit amount your are eligible for. Recipients over 18 years old can
only receive CalWORKs benefits for 48 effective 7/1/11 during their adult
life.
Screening and Supportive Services
CalWORKs assist people on public assistance to move towards self-sufficiency
though employment and supportive services including: child care, textbooks
and transportation. Recipients are expected to participate in a
activities that provide opportunities to help left their families out of
poverty.
Mental health and substance abuse
professionals are available to provide services that are designed to assist
recipients over come barriers to self sufficiency.
