Community Groups Planning Aerial Photo
for Google
March 19, 2010 MERCED – The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce, in
partnership with the Merced Boosters, United Way of Merced County and
community-based Merced Ahead, have announced that they are organizing an event
this weekend meant to show Google how interested the Merced community is its
ultra high-speed Internet test. The group will be organizing a “human billboard” in a fashion
similar to Google’s logo, which will be photographed from an aircraft overhead.
“Community support and participation are going to be vital to the success of
this project” said Chamber COO Jennifer Krumm. “This community got the UC to
build a campus here, our students got the First Lady to come into town, and now
we’re going to get a blazing fast Internet connection!” Members of the public are invited to join their fellow
community members on Saturday, March 20th at 10:00am at the Merced College
football stadium. Participants are asked to wear white shirts, and will be given
a colored piece of paper to hold according to which letter of the Google logo
they will be helping to form. For more information, call the Chamber’s office at
