Logarithmic Regression --Instructions for TI-82/83

Clear List:  

  1. Press STAT; select Edit; select 1; press ENTER

This will let you see if there are numbers in your list.

  1. Press STAT; select 4 (clear list); press 2nd, press  ; press , ; press 2nd; press  ; press ENTER.

Your calculator should now day “Done”.

  1. Repeat #1 to be sure that all the numbers have been cleared.

Enter the data:

  1. Press STAT; select Edit; select 1; press ENTER

At the bottom of the screen you should see  (1)=

  1. Enter the x-coordinates in  , pressing ENTER after each entry.
  2. Press right arrow key.

At the bottom of the screen you should see  (1)=

  1. Enter they-coordinates in  .

Draw Scatter Plot:

(First make sure to clear functions in Y=, and set WINDOW on appropriate range setting)

  1. Press 2nd; press Stat Plot; select 1; press Enter

(The Stat Plot key is the same as the Y= key)

  1. Highlight on
  2. Below on is the word Type:Arrow down and highlight the first graph which is a scatter plot.
  3. Below Type: is XLIST (It should say  ) and YLIST:(It should say  )
  4. Below YLIST: is MARK:select 
  5. Press Graph

You should see the scatter plot of your graph.

To Find Line of Best Fit 

  1. Draw a Scatter Plot
  1. Press STAT; move cursor to CALC
  1. Arrow down to LnReg (Natural Log Regression); press ENTER
  1. 2nd ; ; , ( comma); 2nd ; press ENTER
  1. Write down the value of a, b, r to three decimal places.For the TI-83, ignore the value of 

To Draw Line of Best Fit 

  1. Press Y= ; move cursor to a vacant position
  1. Press VARS; select Statistics; move cursor to EQ
  1. Arrow down to RegEq; press ENTER
  1. Press GRAPH
