Accept Cookies

In order to access the Online Resources at Merced College, you need to allow cookies for the following sites:

http://my.mccd.edu , http://blackboard.mccd.edu , http://webadvisor.mccd.edu etc.

Some security software programs can modify your web browser settings. If you use security software, see those instructions first. We have a set of instructions for a variety of Browsers also. You can chose you application/software and click on the items to expand the list/instructions.

  • Norton Personal Firewall:

    • Double click on the Norton Personal Firewall icon in the tray.

    • Click on the Open option in the pop-up menu.

    • Click the Options icon in the Norton SystemWorks menu box.

    • Click on the Personal Firewall option in the Options menu box.

    • Click the Advanced Options button at the bottom of the Norton Personal Firewall Options menu box to retrieve the default settings menu box.

    • Make sure you are in the "Web" tab. There may be several domains already listed in this area.

    • Click on the Add Site button at the bottom of the Web defaults window.

    • You will need to enter this URL as a new default. This should active the default rules section of that window.

    • Make sure the Cookies and Referer (under Browsing Privacy) are set to permit as a default rule for this domain.

    • Click OK, then click OK again.

  • McAfee Privacy Service:

    • Right-click the red "M" icon by your system clock.

    • Click "Privacy Service."

    • Click "Options."

    • The McAfee Privacy Service window appears. Click the "Cookies" tab.

    • Enter each website address from which you would like to allow cookies.

    • Click "Add."

    • Once completed, close the window.

  • McAfee Internet Security Please follow the directions below to enable cookies in McAfee Internet Security:

    • Right-click the McAfee icon by your system clock or open the application from the Start Menu.

    • Click Privacy Service

    • Click Manage Users

    • The Privacy Service window appears. Click to highlight the name of the user whose setting you wish to change.

    • Click Edit

    • Click the Cookies tab

    • Select the desired option, such as Prompt users to accept cookies or Accept all cookies.

    • Click Apply

    • To edit the Accept Cookie or Reject Cookie Lists from the same window, do the following:

    • Select Prompt users to accept cookies

    • Click Edit

    • Enter the addresses of the web sites from which you want to allow or deny cookies

    • Click Add

    • Once completed with entering all desired addresses, click Done

  • America Online (AOL) Please follow the directions for the version of the software you are using:

    • AOL 9.0

      • From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.

      • Select Internet [Web] Options

      • Select Use your Internet Explorer Settings to set advanced browser options.

      • Select the Privacy tab

      • Select Advanced

      • Make sure the override automatic cookie handling button is not checked

      • Click OK to exit.

    • AOL 8.0

      • From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.

      • Select Preferences

      • Select Internet Properties (WWW)

      • Select the Privacy tab

      • Select Advanced

      • Make sure the override automatic cookie handling button is not checked

      • Click OK to exit.

    • AOL 7.0 with IE 6.x

      • From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.

      • Select Preferences

      • Select Internet Properties (WWW)

      • Select the Privacy tab

      • Select Advanced

      • Make sure the override automatic cookie handling button is not checked

      • Click OK to exit.

    • AOL 7.0 with IE 5.5

      • From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.

      • Select Preferences

      • Select Internet Properties (WWW)

      • Select the Security tab

      • Select the Custom Level tab

      • Under "Allow Cookies that are stored on your computer" click "Enable"

      • Under "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)" click "Enable"

      • Select OK, Yes you want to save the settings

    • AOL 6.0

      • From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.

      • Select Preferences

      • Select Internet Properties (WWW)

      • Select the Security tab

      • Select the Custom Level tab

      • Under "Allow Cookies that are stored on your computer" click "Enable"

      • Under "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)" click "Enable"

      • Select OK, Yes you want to save the settings

    • AOL 5.0

      • Go to My AOL

      • Pick WWW

      • Click the Security tab

      • Go to Custom Level

      • Scroll down to find Cookie

      • Click "Enable"

      • Click OK

    • AOL 4.0

      • Click on Preferences

      • Select on the WWW button

      • Click on the Advanced tab

      • Select the "Accept all cookies" checkbox

  • Internet Explorer Version 6:

    • On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.

    • Select the Privacy tab.

    • Select a privacy level under Settings (Medium or Medium High is recommended).

    • Select OK.

  • Internet Explorer Version 5:

    • On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.

    • Select the Security tab.

    • Click the Custom Level button.

    • Under Cookies, click Enable for both options.

    • Select OK.

  • Macintosh Internet Explorer:

    • Click on the Internet Explorer menu in Internet Explorer

    • Click on the Preferences... item in the menu - a new window opens

    • Click on the Receiving Files section in the left part of the window.

    • Click on the Cookies section.

    • Near the bottom right, where it says "When receiving cookies," select Never ask or Ask for each site.

    • Save changes by clicking Ok

  • Mozilla Firefox:

    • Click on the Tools menu in Firefox

    • Click on the Options... item in the menu - a new window opens

    • Click on the Privacy section in the left part of the window.

    • Expand the Cookies section.

    • Check the Allow sites to set cookies checkbox.

    • Save changes by clicking Ok

  • Mozilla or Netscape 6/7:

    • Click on the Edit menu in Mozilla or Netscape

    • Click on the Preferences... item in the menu - a new window opens

    • Expand the Privacy & Security section in the left part of the window.

    • Click on the Cookies item.

    • On the right hand side of the screen, either check the Allow all cookies or Allow cookies for the originating web site only radio button.

    • Save changes by clicking Ok

  • Opera:

    • Click on the Tools menu in Opera

    • Click on the Preferences... item in the menu - a new window opens

    • Click on the Privacy selection near the bottom left of the window.

    • The Enable cookies checkbox must be checked, and Accept all cookies should be selected in the "Normal cookies" drop-down.

    • Save changes by clicking Ok
