The Merced County Mosquito Abatement District has notified Merced College that mosquitoes found on campus have tested positive for the West Nile Virus. Individuals involved in outdoor activities on campus at dusk (for approximately 2 hours after sunset) and dawn should take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Precautions include wearing long pants and long sleeves, and using a mosquito repellant containing at least 30% DEET. Mosquito Abatement will be aerial spraying (by plane), in North Merced this evening and will continue ground spraying later this week.
