Taking an Assessment with Respondus LockDown Browser

You need to (a) install the browser and (b) follow these simple instructions.

Once Respondus LockDown Browser has been installed, students should follow these steps to take a WebCT assessment that has been prepared for use with Respondus LockDown Browser:

  • Close all programs, unless one is used to connect you to the Internet.
  • Locate the “Respondus LockDown Browser” shortcut on the Windows desktop and double-click it. (Alternatively, click “Start” in Windows, select “Programs,” select “Respondus,” and then click “Respondus LockDown Browser.”). If you have a MAC go to Finder and look for it in applications.
  • Use your MC4ME username. Your password is your DOB in MMDDYY format

 

 

Once an assessment is started using Respondus LockDown Browser, students will be unable to exit the assessment until the “Finish” button is clicked.

 

Respondus anomalies.

  • If you have a MAC and Respondus will not work because it says it has not found the Virtual Machine, do not panic! Just go to www.java.com  and download JAVA.

  • DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use Respondus LockDown Browser for anything else than taking exams (assessments). Otherwise, your computer will LOCKDOWN. (If it does, hold the power button 5 seconds and restart you machine. Click on Lockdown browser again, and exit it. Your computer will be back to normal.)

Instructions to Update Respondus New!

Open Respondus and click on the "i" located on the upper left hand side corner. On the new window that pops up click on "check for updates." Click on "Get Updates" and install.

If you have MS Vista and are experiencing difficulties upgrading, click here and reinstall. NEW

This procedure will solve errors such as a message stating: "Cannot verify LockDown Browser."
