October 2013 NEWS

Over the next several weeks, ITS personnel will be upgrading the wireless infrastructure on the main campus and out at Los Banos and the BRC.

Finally! I know, it’s been too long coming.

Initially, we will be changing out the old Access Points with new, so the coverage area is not expected to improve right away.

However, the quality of service and ease of access is expected to improve immediately upon upgrade.

As part of the upgrade we are replacing the old SSIDs with new SSIDs. Below is a table explaining the changes.

How to Access

Encrypted access to MCCD network. Generally staff and lab use.

Must have a district owned portable device and a valid network user account. Use this with your campus laptop.

Unencrypted access to the Internet and Student Portal services. Mostly for students but all staff and faculty can use this as well with personal devices.

Must have a Valid Network user account.

Web based Login screen. If you can login to the Student Portal you can login to this.

(same as above)

Unencrypted access to the Internet. Intended for guests and contractors based on the login provided.

Must have a Valid Guest account. One is provided on the Web based Login screen. Additional accounts can be provided.

Encrypted Internet access for unmanned devices

Not directly accessible for student or staff use.

·       Wireless network are available from 7am – 10pm, Monday – Sunday.

After we finish replacing the old hardware we will continue to install Access Points to increase the coverage area.

Buildings upgraded at this time are:

·         Field House C

·         Allied Health East and West

·         Administration

·         Services

·         Tri-College: TC3, TC5
