Activities Phi Theta Kappa

There are four hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa: service, scholarship, fellowship, and leadership. The majority of PTK’s activities focus on these first 3 hallmarks.

Recent Service (Community) Actvities

  • Relay for Life: Raises money for the American Cancer Association
  • Locks of Love: Collects real hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients
  • Recycle Eyeglasses: Collects prescription glasses and sunglasses for the Lion's Club, which distributes the glasses to the needy
  • Haven of Hope's Women's Program: Collects nonperishable items and other supplies for local women and their children
  • Project Graduation: Collects canned goods to distribute to families in need
  • Better World Books: Collects used college textbooks; proceeds from their sale benefit the National Center for Family Literacy
  • Random Acts of Kindness Week
  • Get Out the Vote: Distributes "Remember to Vote" flyers
  • Wipe Out Wireless Waste: Recycles used wireless phones and chargers
  • Paint-Outs: Covers up graffiti

Scholarship (Academic) Activities

  • Honors Satellite Seminars: A series of lectures given by world renowned speakers on the Honors Study Topic (the topic of the year that is studied by Phi Theta Kappans)
  • Essay Contest: Promotes participation in the Honors Study Topic; contest is open to all students
  • Professor of the Year: Collects votes for the most recognized professor on campus; the winning professor is announced at the graduation
  • Honors Institute: Fun and educational workshops discussing the Honors Topic
  • Sponsor speakers

Leadership Activities

  • Chapter Officer: Opportunities to become a leader and develop leadership skills
  • Chapter Leadership Conference and Workshop: Interact with community leaders; participate in activities to develop leadership skills
  • Regional and International Leadership Conferences: Interact with officers, members and advisors from other chapters

Fellowship (Social) Activites

  • Parties throughout the year
  • Off-campus meetings
  • Regional and national conferences
