I get an error when logging in to Canvas

Some users may receive errors when logging into Canvas, which is Merced College’s learning management system. If you receive an error, read below for more information.

  1. Error: "Unable to Locate Your Information"
  2. Error: "Failed to Log In" / "Canvas doesn't have an account for user"
  3. Error: "We're sorry, but an error has occurred."
  4. Error: "The username you entered cannot be identified."

1. Error:  "Unable to Locate Your Information"

Why you are getting this error:

You could be using the wrong usersname/password. The OpenCCC app uses the username/password you created when completed the application to attend Merced College. This OpenCCC login is not the same as the username/password you use to access the MC Portal or Canvas. 

What to do:

Try recovering your username/password by clicking on the "Forgot?" tab.  If you cannot recover your username/password, you will need to create a new account with the Chancellor's office OpenCCC app. Click on the link to "Create a New Account."

2. Error:  "Failed to Log In" / "Canvas doesn't have an account for user"

Why you are getting this error:

Your account may exist but has not yet been loaded into Canvas. 

What to do:

Contact the Merced College Student HelpDesk about this error.

3. Error:  "We're sorry, but an error has occurred"

Why you are getting this error:

The system cannot locate your unique CCID. Your CCID is a unique identification number generated for you by the Chancellor's office apps. If your CCID is missing, your profile is incomplete and you will not be able to login to Canvas. 

What to do:

Follow instructions given in the error message and contact the Chancellor's office at 877-247-4836 or support@openccc.net.

4. Error:  "The username you entered cannot be identified"

Why you are getting this error:

You may have logged in using your full email address instead of only your username. Your username is the first part of your campus email address. For example, if your email address is john.smith@campus.mccd.edu, your username would be john.smith as in the example below:

Your username is:  john.smith

Your username is not:  john.smith@campus.mccd.edu

What to do:

Login with your username and password. If you continue to have trouble logging in, contact the Merced College Student HelpDesk.
