Connie Heckman was selected as outstanding student for the month of February 2001 by the Faculty Senate Committee. She is currently in her fourth semester of the RN program and can boast a very high GPA. Her instructors describe her as "the type of student instructors dream of having in their programs." She has been described as intelligent, inquisitive, and as having the temperament suited for nursing. Her motivation and enthusiasm is infectious to all those around her, and she willingly extends help to classmates through the RN mentoring program. Her academic excellence has been honored by receiving the Juanita Dolores Burnett Memorial Scholarship. In addition to her busy schedule at Merced College's RN program, she is working part time as a nurse extern at Emanuel Hospital and manages the busy lives of four school-aged children. Ms. Heckman's future goals include completing her four-year degree in nursing through Stanislaus State University.
