Jenessa James was selected as outstanding student for February 2003. Ms. James has been attending the Los Baņos campus of Merced College for four semesters, beginning at the tender age of sixteen, and has proven herself academically in the classroom. In recognition of her academic record, Ms. James has been inducted into the local Phi Theta Kappa chapter, and was nominated to the National Dean's List as well. She is majoring in Biological Sciences and plans to transfer to CSU Monterey after having completed her AA at Merced College. Ms. James has been described by her instructor, Dr. Brenda Latham, as one of those students that are a teacher's delight - "bright, interested, and eager to learn." Her interest in science combined with her academic ability and sunny personality have earned her the position of lab assistant in the biology lab at Merced College, where she assists other students during the laboratory exercises. Beyond the college, Ms. James is active as an instructor in the STAR program at the Los Baņos elementary schools, which aims at assisting academically low-standing students, and the Future Choices Christian Club. |
