OUTSTANDING STUDENT FOR OCTOBER 2008

David Gomez was chosen as the October Outstanding Student of the Month.  He was nominated by his Radiologic Technology professor Judy Rose.  She nominated David for his conscientiousness, exceptional clinical and patient care and leadership skills.   He has an impressive GPA of 3.95, and his clinic attendance records over the last two years has been impeccable.  Not only did Ms. Rose see his talents but faculty and classmates were quick to recognize his leadership qualities and his talents when David was voted as class treasurer.  Judy Rose stated, "he has the intelligence and insight to see the big picture and the maturity to recognize the realities of life, so classmates tend to listen to what he has to say."

He graduated from Hilmar High School and was the first person in his family to graduate and go to college.  He served in the US Army for two years.  He attended Modesto Junior College for his Associate's degree in Administration of Justice, Computer Science and Transfer Studies (with honors).  He was a Deputy Sheriff for 10 years prior to retirement due to injuries while in the line of duty.

David enrolled at Merced College because he heard about the exceptional program offered in the Diagnostic Radiologic Technology Program, he also found it to be close to home and affordable.  His education goals include finishing the program and passing the national boards in December.  He acknowledges Judy Rose and her staff for being instrumental in his success.

David displays his care and concern for his family, when he is not at school, or working at a hospital internship he is running his household, while his wife works fulltime. He lives in Turlock with his wife Patricia and two daughters Aimee and Lauren. He is very involved with his children's education as a PTA member and just completed a 2 year term as a School Site Council Member for Dutcher Middle School in Turlock.  He is now running for that same office at the local high school.  He enjoys coaching his daughter's fast-pitch softball team.  As time permits he enjoys traveling, fishing, swimming and video games.

We congratulate David on his many accomplishments and wish him all the best.  David will be honored at the upcoming Board of Trustees Meeting and be presented with a certificate, special parking pass and $50 check.
