OUTSTANDING STUDENT FOR DECEMBER 2010
A former US Marine and single father is Merced
College’s Student of the Month for December.
Ruben Vera was nominated by Business professor Dr.
Karen Fritz, who made special note of Ruben’s leadership skills. “Ruben has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in
our Principles of Management class,’ Dr. Fritz said.
“His team was falling behind on an assignment because of lack of
leadership. Ruben
understands group dynamics and he decided to lead the group.
I’ve seen a marked improvement in the team’s work as a result of
his efforts.” Aside from juggling a demanding school schedule and
rearing his children, the Merced resident volunteers at the local food
bank. During his four-year stint as a Marine, Vera received six medals,
one meritorious promotion, and was an honor graduate in a military
leadership course. He was
honorably discharged in 1998. Vera’s educational goals are to earn a bachelor’s
degree in Business Administration and to eventually pursue a career in
radiology technology. We congratulate Vera on his many accomplishments and wish him all the best. Vega will be honored at the upcoming Board of Trustees Meeting and be presented with a certificate, special parking pass and $50 check.
