OUTSTANDING STUDENT FOR OCTOBER 2011
Merced College’s October Student of the Month is
known for “setting the bar higher than what her classmates would like,”
but because Monica Robles also helps her fellow radiology technology
students with their studies, “they give her a pass.” That, according to her professor Judy Rose, is only
one of many reasons she nominated Robles for the honor. “Her classmates know she is the ‘go-to’ person when
they have questions,” Rose said.
“They have placed their full faith and trust in her by electing
her to be their class treasurer.” Robles, a Modesto resident, has maintained a 4.0
grade point average since enrolling in the radiology technology program
in fall 2009. She earned her
associate of science degree in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology in June
and is completing a certificate of completion that will make her
eligible to take the national registry exam at the end of the year. “I’m trying to keep my focus on the present and
take one step at a time,” Robles said.
“But one of my main goals is to complete the radiology program
and become a certified, registered radiologic technician.” Robles has worked as a lead imaging clerk at Sutter
Gould Medical Foundation in Modesto for the past seven years, which is
where she says she discovered an interest in becoming a radiologic
technician. “I chose Merced College’s radiography program
because of the wonderful things that I had heard about the program from
past and current students who rotated through Sutter Gould,” she said. Rose says that Robles has outstanding organizational
and communication skills, and is dependent and self-motivated.
“I know she will be an asset to our profession,” she said. Robles, who also earned a Business degree from Modesto
Jr. College, is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
She volunteers for the March of Dimes and is involved in her
church’s youth group. “I intend to put my training to work in providing the
best imaging services for my patients,” she said.
“I see myself moving into a leadership type of position in a
radiology department.” We congratulate Robles on her many accomplishments and wish her all the best. Robles will be honored at the upcoming Board of Trustees Meeting and be presented with a certificate, special parking pass and $50 check.
