Instructional Design

Get a "health checkup" for your course by meeting with an Instructional Designer. Make an appointment with Instructional Designers Pam Huntington, Keri Ortiz, or Chelsea Quam. You are also encouraged to stop by the Trident Innovation Center; walk-ins are welcome!

The Trident Innovation Center offers multiple Professional Development opportunities each semester. Check out the Professional Development Opportunities page in the OSH for a list of offerings.

Make sure you check your email for reminders from the ID team about weekly Professional Development workshops.

Note: If you do not have access to the OSH, reach out to an Instructional Designer and we can grant you access.

Also called Maintaining Currency. Per the 2024-2027 MCFA Contract, page 51, faculty must maintain their online certification by completing 9 hours of training from the list of district-approved training annually over a three-year period.

As instructional designers at Merced College, we collaborate with faculty to enhance the quality of your courses, offering comprehensive support in course creation and organization, syllabus development, creating engaging learning activities, and designing diverse assessment strategies. Our goal is to ensure that every course is both effective and engaging for students.

Additionally, we offer a Peer Online Course Review program, which provides valuable feedback on course design and counts toward 9 hours of Distance Education (DE) Recertification. This initiative supports our commitment to maintaining high standards in online education, helping instructors refine their courses and stay current with best practices. If you are interested in participating in the POCR process, you can read more on the Certification for Online Instruction and POCR page in the OSH.
