To verify your level, we ask you to provide us with a score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 450 on a Paper-Based Test,  or 45-46 on the Internet Based Test (the equivalent of ESL level 109), or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score 5.0 or better.

This requirement may be waived if you come from a country that uses English as the primary language in its educational system. See list of countries where TOEFL score may be waived.

Note: If your TOEFL score is less than 450(PBT)/45-46(iBT) you may register in Merced College English Language Institute (MCELI) classes. In the MCELI class, you will learn the English language to be ready to take college courses.
