Program Description
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is a 22-month, full-time Certificate of Achievement program that offers didactic, directed hands-on laboratory and professionally supervised clinical training in General Sonography (Abdomen and OB/GYN concentrations.) The program prepares students to sit for American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) National Registry examinations (SPI, Abdomen, and OB/GYN) and to hold the title of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
*This Certificate requires you to have an A.S. Degree in Radiologic Technology, Registered Nursing, or any Bachelors Degree from a regional accredited school.
Program Goals Statement
To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the abdominal-extended and obstetrics and gynecology sonography concentrations.

The Allied Health Center houses a complete Sonography Suite, large computer lab, conference rooms, study rooms and multiple large and small classrooms. The Sonography Programs have contemporary equipment and software that assist students with learning current procedures.
Career Opportunities
Diagnostic Medical Sonographers are employed primarily in hospitals, clinics, medical imaging centers, maternal fetal medicine/women’s health groups, and doctors’ offices. Sonographers manipulate sophisticated technical equipment and computers to obtain detailed images of a patient’s body to assist physicians in the diagnosis of injury and disease. A successful and competent sonographer is one who works well as a team member, thinks critically, solves problems creatively, and possesses strong technical skills. A sonographer must also be flexible and able to work with patients from diverse backgrounds with various needs, abilities, injuries, and disease processes. Employment opportunities for sonographers are Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS), Ultrasound Technologist. With experience and/or additional education, graduates can work in the following areas: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Medical Imaging Management, Sonography Education, Equipment Sales/Service and Technical Representative. Associated fields: Vascular Technology and Sonographic Cardiology.
