This change is expected to have minimal impact on users, as many are already familiar with Windows 11 from using it at home. Windows 10 will soon reach end of life support with Microsoft. Upgrading to Windows 11 provides required and enhanced security features and improved performance for both the district and users.
Each department will be scheduled for an upgrade time and date. Department heads and staff will be notified prior to the upgrade and users will be given time to save any data that is stored on local computers to network drives. The upgrade can take anywhere from 1-2 hours per device and can vary depending on the computer’s specifications.
Any files saved to user home drives (H:) and network shared drives will be unaffected and still available after the upgrade. Personal files and applications should remain intact, but users are responsible for any data that is saved to the local computer (in Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Downloads, etc) and it is encouraged that files be copied and saved to network locations (home drives and shared drives) prior to the upgrade. ITS can perform backups of user data that is saved to the local computer, but no guarantees are made that all data will be restored.
Yes. Windows 11 has its own distinct look. Some buttons and features may be in different locations than Windows 10. ITS will be providing links to training videos that will help you navigate any changes.
