Celebrating Inclusion and Empowerment
The Safe Zone Project at Merced College is a resource hub dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and allies. It reflects the college’s commitment to creating a campus culture where diversity is celebrated, equity is prioritized, and everyone feels valued and respected.
What is Safe Zone?
Safe Zone trainings are opportunities to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege.
- Safe Zone educates participants on how to become allies for our LGBTQ+ community.
- Topics cover gender identity, sexual orientation, and challenges students face.
- Inclusive language, responding to inappropriate behavior, and connecting to resources.
“Supporting equality and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ population in education is not just about acceptance—it’s about empowering every student to thrive, learn, and lead in an environment where authenticity is celebrated and diversity is our greatest strength.”
