Career-Readiness Opportunities
The Career Center is available to provide career presentations for campus groups, classes, and student organizations. To ensure availability, please submit your request at least one month prior to your preferred program date. We offer a variety of workshops and presentations, including:
- Overview of Career Center services
- Career exploration and planning
- Resume writing and job search strategies
- Employer Information Sessions (Company representatives sharing opportunities and their application processes)

Become a Career Champion
Career Champions are dedicated members of the Merced College community who play a key role in student success. They provide guidance and career development support both in and outside the classroom, offering personalized advising, sharing industry insights, and connecting students with resources to help them build skills and prepare for future opportunities.
The Career Champion Program aims to empower faculty, staff, and local professionals to be mentors and advocates for students’ career development. The program will provide them with the training and resources necessary to offer career guidance, making career readiness an integral part of the college experience.
- Enhance Career Readiness: Equip students with career knowledge, skills, and resources to succeed in the job market.
- Faculty & Staff Engagement: Engage faculty and staff in students’ career development journeys by training them to provide career advice and mentorship.
- Community Connection: Involve local professionals and alumni to create networking opportunities and career pathways for students.
- Inclusive Support: Ensure career advice is accessible to all students, including those from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds.
- Lifelong Learning: Foster a culture of lifelong learning and career adaptability.
- Eligibility:
- Full-time or part-time faculty or staff member at Merced College.
- Demonstrated interest in student success and career development.
- Training Commitment:
- Attend a mandatory Career Champion Training Workshop (2-3 hours), which covers:
- Overview of career development resources.
- Advising techniques on resumes, cover letters, and job search strategies.
- Cultural competency and inclusive advising strategies.
- How to refer students to Career Services or external career resources.
- Attend a mandatory Career Champion Training Workshop (2-3 hours), which covers:
- Time Commitment:
- Offer Career Champion Office Hours at least 2 hours per month, during which students can schedule one-on-one career advising sessions.
- Integrate career-related discussions or assignments into at least one class per semester (for faculty).
- Continued Learning:
- Participate in at least one additional professional development workshop per academic year focused on career advising, labor market trends, or student success strategies.
- Engagement:
- Actively promote the Career Champion Program to students in classes or during advising sessions.
- Collaborate with the Career Center for career events, workshops, or panels when available.
- Evaluation:
- Complete an annual self-evaluation and provide feedback on the program’s effectiveness.
